4. Thermal Mass.
Solid and heavy wall materials, such as bricks, suck up heat and inhibit its transport through the wall. Through this, temperature changes become moderate and heat absorption during the summer is significantly inhibited. Compared to brick walls, lightweight material has a very low thermal mass. And because of this thermal mass, brick walls become more capable of moderating home temperature even if they have the same R value.

Now think of thermal mass and consider bricks. The first two techniques in passive design, namely orientation and ventilation, need to be installed at home. And your house's material preferences have a big effect on the quantity of thermal mass in a home or building. One of the simplest and most economical ways to install thermal mass is through bricks. The brick made of clay contains a very high thermal mass. They are available to make your home well-ventilated, comfortable and more energy efficient.

There is research that proves the idea that energy-efficient brick houses. The research has revealed that most of the heat is reflected back to the outside environment through brick exterior panels. Another conclusion that comes out is that in the summer, the temperature inside the house built from bricks remains good and comfortable regardless of the temperature changes outside.

The US Department of Energy states that thermal mass stores heat by changing its temperature. This can be achieved by storing heat coming from a warm room or by changing solar radiation directly into heat. And because bricks have more thermal mass than other building materials, they are very useful elements that can be used to make your home more energy efficient.
