History of Chinese Astrology

History of Chinese Astrology: The development of Chinese astrology originated from at least the Zhou Dynasty (1122 BC - 256 BC). Some sources claim it began as far as 2150 BC. Ancient Chinese astrologers began using the position of planets, moons and stars to accurately predict seasonal changes, and tidal flows. This prediction is very important for the success of agriculture at that time, because they are used to predict the best time to plant and harvest crops.

To help them track the time gone by, Ten Heavenly Stems and Twelve Earth Branches were created. We use these important signs to mark the passing of what we know as hours, days, months and years. During this time in history, only elites could read and write, so animals were used to symbolize each of the Twelve Branches of the Earth.

Legend has it that during the New Year's celebration the Buddha will decide on the order of animals to be used for the Twelve Branches of the Earth. He asked all animals in the kingdom to join him for a meeting. Only twelve animals answered the Buddha's call and attended the meeting. The Buddha gives each of the twelve animals sovereignty over the Branch of the Earth. Each animal must lead the Branch and have an influence on those born during the Branch.

We know the Twelve Branches of the Earth as "Years". In the traditional Chinese calendar, the twelve signs of the animal repeat in a never-ending circle, to remind us that time is constant and has flow.

Sequentially, the Twelve Branches of the Earth are rats, oxen, tigers, rabbits, dragons, snakes, horses, sheep, monkeys, roosters, dogs, and pigs.

Some ancient Chinese valued the Earth above the stars. These scientists are looking for the reason behind natural order. They agreed that all things have a basis in one of the five elements. According to their understanding, all objects are made of Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, or Wood. They examine how these basic elements work together and conflict with each other. Wood creates Fire, Fire transforms into Earth, Earth creates Metal, Metal creates water, and water creates Wood.

The beginning of Chinese astrology lies in the so-called "dragon bone record" of the Shang Dynasty (around the 16th - 11th century BC). The record is the main legacy of the Shang Dynasty, which was written on bones and turtle shells. In the beginning, people did not realize how valuable these objects were and made them as drugs alone. People believe that it is a dragon's bones and can cure various diseases. This continued until 1899, when an ancient collector gave it to one of the ministers of the Qing Dynasty emperor. It began to be realized that the bones were valuable relics that show examples of thousands of years old Chinese characters. Wang Yirong, a member of the Hanlin Assembly bought two collections of the bones from several merchants in Beijing in 1900. Incidentally the same year the Boxer rebellion erupted and as a result Wang Yirong killed himself. His son then sold the bones to a writer named Liu E (aka Liu Dieyun). The first book about bones was published in 1903 which discussed 1,000 kinds of ancient writings. Later, people learned that the bones were excavated from Xiatun village, which is west of Anyang. During the Shang Dynasty, the bones were used to predict and ask questions about the gods and ancestral spirits, such as travel, hunting, fishing, matters of war, climate and future harvest, illness, dreams, fate, etc. so. The bones were burned after the question was written on it and people of that era believed that the answer could be interpreted from the shape of the fractures of the bone, which arose as a result of the combustion process. The following will be quoted two examples of questions found in the bones of the prediction above:

On the day of Dinghai, Cheng asked the prophecy as follows: "The king got a nightmare. Will he experience a toothache? "On the day of Jiwei, Ke asked for the prophecy as follows:" Will it rain this month.

In addition, the notes on the bones above also mention the stars that are good and bad. For example the Chinese letter (xiong), which means "killer," "cruel," or "unprofitable," comes from the constellation "ghost train," which is a cluster of four stars with a fog in the middle of the nebula. One example of notes on bones related to astrology reads as follows:

On the seventh of this month, a new star appeared to accompany Star of fire

Thus we can conclude that the basics for Chinese astrology have begun since the Shang Dynasty, the first Chinese dynasty to recognize letters. The ten celestial stems are also as old as the Shang Dynasty, because we also find their names in bone records. Initially the sky trunk was used to name the day. So the one-week count according to the Shang Dynasty consists of ten days. Legend has it that these ten celestial stems were discovered by the legendary emperor Huangdi in 2697 BC. While the branches of the earth can also be traced to the Shang Dynasty. The book Cunqiu also uses it in naming days:

On the date Gui-chou, the duke (duke) held a meeting with the regent (marquis) of the country of Tsin, the ruling regent (marquis) of the country of Wei, tumenggung (earl) the ruler of the Ch'ing country, tumenggung (earl) the ruler of Ts'aou, Ch'ing - heir of the land of Sung, Kwoh Tso of Ts'e, and an official of the Choo state. They then entered into a collective agreement at Ts'eih.

Nonetheless, the use of sky trunks and branches of the earth to name the new year took place during the time of Emperor Wang Mang of the Xin Dynasty.

History 19th Century Airships and Balloons

History 19th Century Airships and Balloons: In the 1800s, we saw progress in balloons, after the Montgolfier flight in 1783. Thus, it was popular throughout the world in the middle of the century. Jean-Pierre Blanchard is famous for his balloon flights throughout Europe and America even though he failed in countless attempts to create ornithopter. In 1785, John-Pierre with John Jeffries, a doctor crossed the English Channel. They also climbed the exhibition in Philadelphia in 1793, no less than George Washington was there to watch the event.

John Wise was the first hot air balloon in America and was privileged to be trained by Jean-Pierre. John Wise then trained many other people in America. This encouraged the interest of all Americans to inflate. Jean-Pierre died in an experimental parachute jump from his balloon in 1809. During the civil war, four balloons were placed in strategic places to allow it to observe below and communicate telegraphically with the rest of the balloon. Confederates recognize balloon potential for reconnaissance; they tried to make a program but it never worked. To make the balloon an area of ??observation was Thaddeus Lowe's idea and was used as a pivot in a telegraph letter between the White House and balloons.

A balloon with a propeller was developed after Jean-Pierre and John Jeffries crossed the English Channel. The English Channel also became famous and found its mark in the history of aviation. The art of aerial photography on a balloon is credited to Felix Tournachon (Nadar) from France. The entire photo lab was even taken with a large balloon. Felix was better known during the siege in 1870, where he inflated letters and passengers leaving Paris.

During the late 19th century, efforts were made to pass the North Pole balloon. The experiment was carried out on July 11, 1897 by Salomon August Andree and the other two, launched from Spitzbergen. The three never returned until an expedition in 1930 found their bodies frozen. It was realized that the balloon fell on the ice and they froze when trying to walk back to civilization.

The propeller system for the balloon allows the balloon to be controlled to where it must go. Many engineers see it suitable for installing a propeller and immediately start working. This gives birth to a balloon. The first successful flight was on September 24, 1852. Henri Giffard made a cigar-shaped design concept. It is filled with hydrogen and has a steam engine. As expected, this runs at a gentle speed of 5 miles per hour.

Thaddeus Lowe made the initial balloon used for observation during the Civil War in Virgina at Fair Oaks. LZ4 is the pride of Germany but during the attempt to break the record the resistance was destroyed. During this Civil War, a German military general known as Ferdinand von Zeppelin had noticed extensive balloon use. Count von Zeppelin along with chief engineer Ludwig Durr, created an airplane as high as 420 feet, designed to carry many people.

A number of winning balloon flights took place towards the end of the 1880s. This moved the Germans to think about the possibility of using the plane as a means of traveling. Experiments run with two models, one with a gasoline engine and the other covered with aluminum sheets. Unfortunately, both of them fell during a test flight in 1897.

Forestry and Global Warming

Forestry and Global Warming: How to use land can affect global warming. The types of plants, animals, or minerals placed on a plot of land make it different from other plots of land. These differences can be explored to help you gain an understanding of global warming.
Forestry and Global Warming
Forestry and Global Warming
Forests are important land use in most countries. This is true for many reasons, but when it comes to global warming, that is especially true. The life of plants can rub carbon dioxide from the air. Most of the carbon dioxide which is one of the causes of global warming can only be eliminated by being around certain plants.

Trees are the best carbon dioxide cleaners in nature. Old trees that grow very well in removing carbon dioxide from the air and storing it in their cells. For this reason, old trees need to be protected from wooden jack blades.

While the timber trade argues that old trees can easily be replaced by new trees, this does not happen at all. New trees do not have the ability of old trees to prevent global warming by trapping carbon dioxide.

Some cutting advocates suggest that certain new trees are able to capture more greenhouse gases than old trees. The truth is that, even if this is true, that is not true when you compare new special trees with trees that have decades of growth. To prevent global warming, you need trees that contain substances.

One law is proposed to stop logging and road construction in the forest to prevent global warming. This special law is to protect a large number of forests - around 13 million hectares in ancient forests. Most of this forest is so natural that it doesn't even have a road at all. This law will also prohibit illegal logging, a practice that truly destroys hectares of land.

Several studies have been conducted to estimate the potential amount of global warming caused by deforestation of tropical rainforests. Loggers don't just take mature trees for wood. People who want to clean a place to live, work or farm in the forest clear the forest by cutting and burning most of the rainforest.

As if this is not enough, other greenhouse gases are increasing due to deforestation. These include methane and nitrous oxide. Global warming can be predicted when greedy people take rainforests and other forests for their own purposes.

Apparently, according to the figures in this study, prevention of global warming must focus on greenhouse emissions caused by burning fossil fuels first. However, deforestation is in second place in the cause of global warming.
People can stop this dependence on old trees for wood. There are many building materials available for use. For example, it does not disturb the balance of nature when you build with stones. Also, furniture can be made from other materials. When people know that forests are important in stopping global warming, they can help the situation by refusing to use wood from old forests and rainforests.

The Amazing Hubble

In the history of modern astronomy, there may not have been a single leap forward that was greater than the construction and launch of the space telescope known as Hubble. While NASA has experienced many ups and downs, the ongoing launch and operation of the Hubble Space Telescope may rank next to the moon landing and the development of the Space Shuttle as one of the greatest achievements of space exploration in the last hundred years.
The Amazing Hubble
The Amazing Hubble
A remarkable piece of astronomy that only a few people know is that in fact, only about ten percent of the universe is seen using conventional observation methods. For that reason, Hubble really is a big leap forward. That's because of the very simple reason that Hubble can operate outside the Earth's atmosphere. Trying to do space exploration significantly through a telescope from the surface of the earth on planet Earth is very difficult. That is what keeps us alive, our own Earth's atmosphere presents a serious disruption to being able to see deeper and further into space.

The Hubble Space Telescope is named after the great scientist and visionary Edward Hubble who discovered that the universe was expanding which was explained by what is now known in science as Hubble's Law. To truly feel the extraordinary achievements achieved with the launch of the Hubble telescope, spend time on the NASA website dedicated to the project at http://hubble.nasa.gov. There are also a number of sites where you can enjoy some amazing images from Hubble including http://heritage.stsci.edu/ and http://www.stsci.edu/ftp/science/hdf/hdf.html.

It's hard to believe how long Hubble has orbited the earth and sent back amazing videos and images of what it found in space. But Hubble was originally launched on April 25, 1990. It was the culmination of decades of research and construction that began in 1977. The expectation was high when a telescope orbiting was placed and actually began to function because it was designed to do.

Everything is not always perfect with telescopes and the initial pictures are disappointing. After some research, NASA found that the reason for the initial failure was the curvature of one of the main lenses of an orbiting telescope.

We might never be able to keep this complicated equipment operating and we don't have a Shuttle program to give us tools to implement Hubble improvements and improvements. In 1993 a new lens was installed at Hubble that corrected the problem of image resolution recorded at the beginning of the operation of the telescope.

Two other improvement and enhancement missions have been made for Hubble since its launch, both in 1997 to upgrade older equipment and to improve the telescope to extend its useful life until 2010. It is amazing to think that this scientific and mechanical miracle has operated now for ten years without maintenance. We can be sure that plans are underway for NASA to upgrade or replace parts at Hubble to extend its useful life even further because the 2010 time frame is getting closer.

It's hard to imagine astronomy or the natural search for greater knowledge of our universe without Hubble. While many times those who don't want to fund space exploration have tried to cut funding for Hubble, the operation of this telescope is too important for astronomers and for the scientific well-being of humans and our planet not to continue using Hubble, or the next natural successor. We will always need to have a set of eyes in the sky to witness the universe and discover more of its mystery.

History of Ornithopters and Helicopters

One of the first flying machines designed or least imagined is ornithopter. In essence, when mankind looked at the sky, he saw that the birds were flying and thus humanity realized that if he wanted to own the sky, he would have to fly like a bird. Thus since the beginning of civilization, humanity, with its search for power over nature, has tried to repeat the design and behavior of natural flying species. In addition to the formal history of mankind, legend also describes the journey of mankind to fly.
History of Ornithopters and Helicopters
History of Ornithopters and Helicopters
The first reference to Ornithopter and a real reference to fly are in the Daedalus and Icarus legends. When Icarus was held captive by the Gods on the mountain fortress, he used a large wing that was tethered to his body by a candle. But because he flew too close to the sun, according to legend his wings melted from his body and he fell into a deep, bottomless pit. Even though it is a tragic myth, it symbolizes the search for humans to fly and thus controls the forces of nature.

As humanity progresses further and further, throughout history there have been many experiments and designs for flying machines. To build flights, humanity sees the only available flying example: birds. Because of this, everyone tried to copy bird designs to design flying machines that were parallel to their development: Ornithopter. In essence, the ornithopter is a machine that has bird-like wings and a place for operators to attach. The operator will flap its arms and the ornithopter wings will also be flapped. In essence, humanity will fly by simulating the flutter of the bird's wings. However, because the principles of aerodynamics were not found, no one was aware of the ratio of wings to muscle strength and thus all these projects and efforts must have failed.

Perhaps the most serious thought came from the famous thinker and designer Leonardo Da Vinci. He drew many representations of birds to understand the principle correctly. Thus, as a result he was designed to design Ornithopters and Helicopter designs which are vehicles that can take off vertically from the ground using a horizontal knife to the ground. In fact, it can be said that ornithopter is the father of a helicopter.

During the history of mankind there were hundreds of ornithopter helicopter designs and even those who never had the chance to fly from the ground. Especially the 19th century was filled with many inventors who competed for the design of successful ornithopter. In fact, the great inventor Thomas Edison who tampered with ornithopter advertisements even received patents (although the design was not feasible and therefore never worked) When it was realized that the power to flap wings was not sufficient in Humans, new designs were introduced that utilized mechanical energy to fly. In 1870, French inventor Gustave Trouve designed an ornithopter that received its power to flap its wings from an internal combustion engine. The flight was successful in part because of the ornithopter he designed to fly 70 meters from the ground.

The end result is that even though people try to fly ornithopters, it's not a decent aerodynamic design. Although in the 20th century some successful ornithopters were built, it was stopped as an idea. Then the power to fly was concentrated on flying flights (not flapping wings) and thus the Wright Brothers could fly to create a big industry in the 20th century. However, efforts for Ornithopter are not in vain, because in principle the helicopter laying stones.
